February has been a very exciting month for us here at Saffron Organic with the launch of our very first Organic Skin Care courses. Run by our founder Fiona as part of Kingston University’s Go Green Week, two one-hour lunch time courses were held on the 10th and 16th. We are pleased to say we managed to raise some money for People & Planet along the way, which will go towards helping to encourage schools, universities and students to become greener. We met some lovely people with an active interest in organic skin care, had some great feedback and are now looking forward to running out next courses.

Our guests highlighted that their most enjoyable part of the course was when they got to make a 100% organic balm with the mixing of essential oils being great fun - they have now been inspired to experiment with a few of their own recipes at home. We also found information on the range of certifications to be particularly helpful for our guests, as the percentage of organic ingredients required in a product to be labelled as 'organic' can vary enormously depending on the certification body. As I'm sure you know we only ever stock products certified by the Soil Association due to their strict stance on potentially toxic ingredients and their guarantee that every product is as organic and sustainable as it can be. To find out more information on organic and natural certification visit our Why Organic? page.
Balm Balm’s range of 100% organic essential oils that were used on the day we’re very popular and are now available to buy online along with blue glass pots – perfect for making your own products! For an introduction to essential oils Glenda Taylor, founder of Balm Balm, has written a wonderful Guest Blog for us providing inspiration for those of you who are thinking of experimenting with your own products.

If you’re green fingered and would like to find out more about how you can use the Soil Association’s principles of organic farming in your own garden keep an eye on our Beauty is on the inside... What’s in your moisturiser?! blog. Throughout 2012 we will be bringing you news from our brands on how they utilise organic horticulture methods and tips on how to use these at home. Plus if you’ve ever thought about growing some plants to use in skin care, this is the year! We have chosen our top 5 plants for you to get hands on with in our Grow Your Own Skin Care Challenge.
