It makes sense. If you buy fruit and vegetables that have been grown in South America, chances are they are picked before they are ripe so they are ready to eat when they hit our supermarkets. However, in picking before ripe the produce is deprived of important nutrients from its mother tree/plant so isn’t as nutritious as it would be if it were allowed to ripen naturally.

As Holly explained yesterday in her guest blog on the impact of food miles on nutrition, so the same goes for the ingredients in your skin care products. The longer it takes for some key ingredients to go from the farm to your bathroom cabinet the less active they will be. While this doesn’t apply to all ingredients as some such as bees wax are fairly stable and as such do not degrade for a long time after sourcing, key active ingredients such as flowers and herbs degrade more quickly.
